MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference recently announced its 2016 Fall Semester Commissioner's Honor Roll and Assumption finished third among all NE10 institutions with 291 student-athletes who posted at least a grade point average (GPA) of a 3.0 or higher during the fall semester.
The Hounds' total of 291 trailed just Merrimack who had 295 and Bentley, who led all schools with 368. The 291 honorees surpasses last year's total of 276 for Assumption and it is the school's second straight year with the third most honorees. Overall, 3,851 NE10 student-athletes were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll (CHR) for the Fall 2016 semester. In order to be eligible for CHR selection, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale during the semester.
"I am extremely proud of our nearly 300 student-athletes that earned a spot on the Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll, a number which makes up over 53 percent of our student-athlete population" said Nick Smith, director of athletics. "This continued pursuit of excellence is something that is very important to our department and I would like to congratulate each of these student-athletes on this outstanding accomplishment."
Overall as an athletic department, the cumulative GPA of all Assumption College student-athletes was over a 3.0 for the fourth straight semester as 16 of the College's 24 teams posted a GPA of a 3.0 or higher during the fall.
Across the conference, the highest total of student-athletes that were recognized came from the sport of football with a total of 402 (up 25 student-athletes from the spring). Women's track and field was next with 332 honorees followed by women's soccer (331), baseball (296) and men's lacrosse (268).
