Time is now for talented Greyhound football . . .

WORCESTER --- Two years ago, the Greyhounds endured a 1-9 season, a season which at times seemed demoralizing, but not enough to count out Assumption's sophomore class. "We were actually in a lot of close games that year, most of them by only about a touchdown," said right offensive tackle Matt Sidebottom, who was starting for the first time that season. "We knew the winning was going to come. Since we've been freshmen, we've been talking about this year."

WORCESTER - The burden of deciding on a college is stressful enough. So Mike Foley possibly could've done without all the phone calls three years ago from his buddy just a few blocks away. Foley, the Holden resident who starred on the Saint John's offensive and defensive lines, had the choices down to two: "Assumption, which is 10 minutes away, and Oberlin, which is 10 hours away."

CHESHIRE, CT - In a few weeks Rich Jakiel will return to Assumption College to begin his sophomore year as a business management major. And while some of his classmates will have spent the summer working at large corporations to gain experience, Jakiel will have them all beat, thanks to his busy summer. "I certainly think of this as a phenomenal learning experience for the future," said Jakiel, a 19-year-old from New Britain. "There's some organization, management and budgeting involved in what I do." Apparently, Jakiel is also working on a minor in understatement.
