Freshman guard Molly Griffiths keys women's basketball past American International, 66-61, in key Northeast-10 Conference game

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Freshman guard MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline) led three double-figure scorers with 18 points and two big three pointers down-the-stretch as Assumption College women's basketball defeated American International College, 66-61, in Northeast-10 Conference action WEDNESDAY in the Laska Gym.

The Greyhounds snapped a two-game losing streak and have won 10 of their last 12 games to improve to 17-5 overall and 11-4 in the conference. American International is now 11-8 overall and 8-7 in the conference.

In a game of spurts, the Greyhounds moved to a 19-5 advantage out-of-the-gate before the Yellow Jackets behind senior forward ALEXIS CASTRO (Chula Vista, CA/Vermont Academy) roared back to lead 38-36 at the half---scoring the final seven points. Castro led all scorers with 12 points on four-of-five from the floor (two three-pointers), while junior guard/captain BETHANY PLASSKI (Fall River, MA/Durfee) led the Greyhounds with 10 points.

When junior forward STACY BOISVERT (Agawam, MA/Agawam) converted a layin with 3:44 left the Jackets led by six points, 58-52.

Hounds' sophomore forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) started the comeback with a drive to the basket off a feed from senior forward/captain CHARDE FLOYD (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy). Junior point guard TRISH GARDNER (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth) made a free throw and Parker a foul line jumper to cut the gap to one points, 58-57, with 2:11 left.

Griffiths then connected on a corner jumper for a three-pointer to put the Hounds up two (60-58) and on the next trip down the floor hit a three-pointer from the wing nearly six feet behind the line to put it away 63-58 with 38 seconds left.

Floyd made one free throw and Plasski converted a pair with 13 seconds left to account for the final points.

Griffiths led the Hounds' attack with 18 points, while Plasski added 12 points and Parker 11 points. Floyd scored nine points along with a game-high 13 rebounds and three steals. Gardner added a career-high tying nine assists from her point position.

Castro led all scorers for American International with 20 points (four three pointers in five attempts) and eight rebounds, while Boisvert added 10 points.

GREYHOUND NOTES: former American International College standout MEGHAN LADLEY is now an assistant coach with the Greyhounds, while former Greyhound guard KARA WILLIAMSON is now an assistant with A.I.C. . .
