GARDEN CITY, NY --- Senior guard LISA MANETTA (Glendale, NY/Chris the King) and senior forward SERITA LEE (Freeport, NY/Malverne) each scored 18 points to lead Adelphi University past Assumption College, 72-66, in a non-conference women's basketball game here Monday night.
The Greyhounds are now 7-4 overall while Adelphi moves to 6-5.
Adelphi moved to a quick 15-9 first-half lead on the end of a 7-2 run with freshman forward THERESA FOLEY (Lake Grove, NY/Centerreach) connecting on wing jumper with 13:01 remaining. A three-pointer by senior guard DANIELLE PARKS (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) made it a 10-point game, 25-15, with 7:23 left in the half.
The Greyhounds then went on a 10-4 run to cut it to four points as senior guard BETHANY PLASSKI (Fall River, MA/Durfee) finished the spurt a wing jumper with 4:18 left to make it 29-25. A layin by junior forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) cut the gap to one point, 34-33, at the half.
After senior guard TRISH GARDNER (North Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth) tied the game at 34-34 with a free throw to start the second half and Plasski hit a three-pointer with 19:04 left to give the Greyhounds their final lead at 37-36. An 8-0 spurt by Adelphi capped by a Manetta layin with 17:00 left made it 44-37 Panthers.
A pair of free throws by junior guard LESLIE LUPIEN (Pomfret Center, CT/Woodstock Academy) cut the gap to two points, 58-56, with 6:45 left. And, a layin by freshman forward KELLY MEREDITH (Franklin, MA/Franklin) cut to three points, 69-66, with 1:06 remaining.
Parker led all scorers with 22 points on 10-for-12 floor accuracy, while Plasski added 13 points.
