ALBANY, N.Y. --- Freshman MELISSA FERRY (Cumberland, RI/Mount Saint Charles) improved her record to a perfect 5-0 at No. 1 singles as the Assumption College women's tennis team defeated the College of Saint Rose, 8-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference match.
Ferry defeated the Golden Knights junior RACHAEL O'BRIEN (Lowville, NY/Lowville), 6-1, 6-1 and then teamed with sophomore captain GRACE FOX (Warwick, RI/Toll Gate) to win 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Other singles winners for the Greyhounds included freshman MARISSA CHARLES (Mystic, CT/Saint Bernard), who defeated sophomore STEPHANIE PAINE (Northford, CT/Mercy) (8-3) at No. 3; Fox, who beat sophomore KIMBERLY SCHACHER (Cobleskill, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) at No. 4 (6-1, 6-3); junior GRACE O'NEIL (Rumford, RI/Saint Mary), who beat freshman NICOLE TERRIBULE (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) (8-3) at No. 5 and junior captain CAITLYN HARVEY (Rutland, MA/Wachusett), who defeated freshman ERICIA EDWARDS (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) in the longest match of the day, 6-1, 0-6, 16-14.
In doubles the Greyhounds swept the three points as Ferry-Fox defeated O'Brien-sophomore STEPHANIE BELZ (Sayville, NY/St. John the Baptist), 8-0 and Harvey-O'Neil defeated Edwards-Schacher, 8-4.
The Greyhounds are now 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while Saint Rose falls to 2-10 and 1-5.
Saint Rose plays next at conference rival American International Saturday at 1 p.m., while the Greyhounds host Southern New Hampshire Saturday at 1 p.m.
