WBCA "Pink Zone" initiative against breast cancer TuesdayFebruary 5, 2010
WORCESTER, Mass. --- The Assumption College women's basketball team in conjunction with a nationwide initiative orchestrated by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association will participate in a WBCA Pink Zone program culminating with its game against Northeast-10 Conference rival University of New Haven Tuesday, February 9, 2009 in the Laska Gym.
PINK ZONE is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
The Greyhounds will sell t-shirts Monday and Tuesday in the Hagan Campus Center booth for $5 each, while the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will give a pink ribbon for any donation at the game to the Susan G. Komen Fund. The Komen Fund is the largest fund devoted exclusively to raising money for breast cancer.
In addition, all survivors of breast cancer and their immediate families will be admitted free of charge to the games Tuesday.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is scheduled to do a short presentation before the tapoff of both the women and men's games that night and a moment of silence will call attention to the seriousness of the illness. Also, another presentation will take place during halftime.
The group will also collect names of survivors and names in memoriam on special pink ribbons to be posted in the gym lobby.
