Greyhound women's tennis defeats New Haven, 8-1

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Assumption College swept all six singles matches en route to an 8-1 Northeast-10 Conference women?s tennis win over the University of New Haven here Thursday.

Sophomore JEN ERICKSON (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) led the way defeating Chargers freshman LAUREN LYONS (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 3-6 (10-8 tiebreaker). Freshman ERICA MICCICHE (Framingham, MA/Framingham) then defeated KRISTINA BENSLEY (Matamoras, PA/Delaware Valley) at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Micciche and Erickson combined at No. 1 doubles to beat Lyons and sophomore NOELLE POLHEMUS (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees), 8-0.

Sophomore MARISSA CHARLES (Mystic, CT/Saint Bernard) defeated Polehemus at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2 . . . junior GRACE FOX (Warwick, RI/Toll Gate) defeated senior LEAH SMITH (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-3 . . . senior CAITLIN HARVEY (Rutland, MA/Wachusett) won at No. 5 singles over GABBY FUENTES , 7-6 (2), 6-1 and freshman ALLIE PLACK (Oakdale, CT/Montville) won at No. 6 singles over senior MARIANA ZAHONA (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua), 6-4, 7-5.

The Greyhounds are now 3-5 overall and 3-5 in the conference. They host Franklin Pierce University Saturday at 2 p.m. and American International College Sunday at 1 p.m.
