Hounds fall hard against Pace
Pace 75, Assumption 37
Pleasantville, NY -- The Assumption woman's basketball team took
a tough loss while visiting Pace University on Saturday, losing by
a final score of 75-37.
Sophomore guard Katy Howard (Medway, MA/Medway)
was one of the few bright spots for Assumption, scoring
eight points and collecting two assists. Junior
forward Kelly Meredith (Franklin, MA/Franklin) had
seven points and a team-high eight rebounds. Senior forward Molly
Griffiths (Walpole, MA/Ursuline Academy) had six points and seven
rebounds. Sophomore guard Gabrielle Gibson
(Amityville, NY/Copiague) had four points and three steals. No
Greyhound scored in double digits.
For the Setters, sophomore forward Brittany
Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) led all scorers with 14
points and 10 rebounds. Junior forward Maral
Javadifar (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) added 12
points and senior guard Lisa Welsome (Staten
Island, NY/St. Peter's) had 11 points, all part of a very balanced,
potent Pace offense that took a 3-2 lead two minutes into the game
off a three-pointer by Welsome and then never let up.
Pace led by 21 headed into halftime, then started the second half
on a six point run. Assumption never got closer than 22 after
that.
Assumption went into the game 8-0 on the road in conference games.
With the loss, Assumption's record falls to 15-6 with a 13-4 record
in the Northeast-10. The Greyhounds will look to rebound on Tuesday
as they visit the University of New Haven. The Setters of Pace are
now 18-5 with a 12-5 record in the Northeast-10. They visit
Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday.
