WORCESTER, Mass. – Following a second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, the Assumption football team was picked first in the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Poll, released today by the NE10.
The Hounds racked up 78 points, including six of the ten possible first place nods, while LIU Post received 76 total points, and the four other first place nods. The Pioneers did take down Assumption in last year's NE10 Title game while also advancing to the NCAA Tournament. The Hounds, however, are the only team in the conference to reach the NCAA Tournament in each of the past two seasons.
Southern Connecticut was picked third in the poll with 60 points while New Haven was fourth with 55 and Bentley rounded out the top five with 42 points. To view the rest of the poll, click here.
There will be no NE10 Championship Game / Weekend this year as the conference's athletic directors voted to remove it for the 2017 season.
The 2017 NE10 football season will officially kick off on Thursday, August 31, as Bentley and Saint Anselm hit the road in non-conference tilts. Assumption begins its season on Sept. 2 when the Hounds travel to face Kutztown at 12:05 pm, they follow a week later with their home-opener on Friday, Sept. 8 against Pace.
