Hounds Earn Split at Elms College Tri-Meet
Chicopee, Mass. -- In a tri-meet hosted by Elms College, the Assumption women’s swimming team split with Elms and Regis College over this past weekend. The Hounds dropped a 63-58 final to Elms, while defeating Regis by an 83-30 final to earn the split.
In the first event, the Hounds picked up a victory as Assumption’s “A” relay team finished in a time of 2:16.04 in the 200 meter medley relay. Assumption picked up another victory in the 200 meter freestyle as junior Kerry Silva (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) finished in a time of 2:21.23. In addition to her win in the 200, Silva also captured the 400 freestyle in a time of 5:02.77.
Freshman Christa Bodemann (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) picked up a victory in the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:14.55, followed by teammate Meaghan Shea (Orlando, Fla./Orlando Lutheran Academy) in second at 1:17.91. After a victory in the 50 meter freestyle by Maureen Quirk (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield), the Hounds also were victorious in the 100 free as Danielle Tagarelis (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) won that event by just a half second. Quirk finished in a time of 30.02, while Tagarelis touched in 1:06.61. Freshman Katherine Medeiros (Mattapoisett, Mass./Bishop Stang) was the final Assumption victory of the meet as she captured the 100 IM in a time of 1:13.75.
Assumption returns to action this week as the Hounds travel to the Northeast-10 Championship, hosted by Southern Connecticut.
