Hounds Sit in Fourth After Day One at NE-10 Championship
New Haven, Conn. (February 2) -- After day one of the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at Southern Connecticut State University, the Assumption College women’s swimming team is currently in fourth place out of eight teams with 153 total points. Southern Connecticut currently leads the event, followed by Bentley and Saint Rose.
The Hounds began the finals with a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay as the team of Amanda Guy (Lakeville, Mass./Apponequet), Katherine Medeiros (Mattapoisett, Mass./Bishop Stang), Maureen Quirk (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) and Carly Eckles (Sherborn, Mass./Dover-Sherborn) finished in a time of 1:40.72.
In the first individual final of the event, the Hounds received a fifth-place finish from Silva in the 500 freestyle as she touched in a time of 5:13.59. Sophomore Monique Haney (Rialto, Calif./Bloomington) was also in the A-Final and finished in eighth with a time of 5:15.81. In the 200 IM, it was junior Jennifer Ryan (Weston, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) who finished in eighth in 2:19.08 to earn 11 points towards the team point total.
In the last individual final of the evening, Medeiros picked up 13 points for the Hounds with a sixth-place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.52. Assumption concluded the evening with the 400 medley relay as the Hounds placed fourth in a time of 4:05.73 to earn 30 points.
The event continues on Friday and Saturday at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.
