Hounds Finish Fourth at Northeast-10 Championships
New Haven, Conn. -- The Assumption women’s swimming team posted a fourth-place finish out of eight teams at the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut. The Hounds finished the competition with 526 points, while Southern Connecticut claimed the overall team title.
On day two, the Hounds started the session with a fifth-place finish in the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 1:53.53. In the first individual event of the day-two finals, sophomore Monique Haney (Rialto, Calif./Bloomington) earned an NCAA B time of 4:36.68 as she finished second in the 400 yard IM. Freshman Katherine Medeiros (Mattapoisett, Mass./Bishop Stang) posted a top-five finish in the 100 yard butterfly as she finished in a time of 59.05 to finish in fifth place. The Hounds picked up fifth-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle as well as junior Kerry Silva (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) finished in a time of 1:57.80 to take fifth by just .03 seconds. Assumption wrapped up day two of the event with 800 yard freestyle relay as the Hounds placed fourth in a time of 7:57.62.
On the final day of competition, two swimmers picked up NCAA B times to help lead the Hounds to the fourth-place finish. Silva posted the top individual performance of the day for Assumption as she finished second in the 1650 yard freestyle in an NCAA B time of 17:45.01. Haney also met the NCAA B time in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing in third in a time of 2:08.87. Carly Eckles (Sherborn, Mass./Dover-Sherborn) placed fifth in the 200 yard backstroke in 2:10.34, while Medeiros picked up a third-place finish in the 100 yard freestyle in 54.26. The Hounds wrapped up the competition with a fourth-place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay, finishing in a time of 3:40.04.
