Hounds Finish Third at NEISDA Championships
White River Junction, Vt. (February 20) -- The Assumption women's swimming team placed third out of 22 teams at the NEISDA Championships, held this past weekend at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction. The Hounds finished the three-day event with 1061.5 total points.
On day two, sophomore Monique Haney (Rialto, Calif./Bloomington) captured the 400 IM title in a time of 4:37.12, which won the event by .55 seconds. The time was also fast enough to meet the NCAA "B" standard. Jill Burke (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) also swam well in the event as she finished fourth in a time of 4:51.23. Freshman Katherine Medeiros (Mattapoisett, Mass./Bishop Stang) was third in the 50 yard butterfly in a time of 26.69, along with a sixth-place showing in the 100 backstroke by sophomore Carly Eckles (Sherborn, Mass./Dover-Sherborn).
On the final day, junior Kerry Silva (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) got the Hounds started with a third-place finish in the 1650 freestyle in a time of 18:05.23. Meaghan Shea (Orlando, Fla./Orlando Lutheran Academy) posted a fifth-place finish in the event, touching in 18:38.38.
In the 200 fly, Haney met the NCAA "B" standard again as she finished second in a time of 2:09.49 seconds. Kaitlin Owen (Bridgewater, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) was also sixth in the 200 fly, finishing in 2:16.44. In the final event, the Hounds took home fourth place in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:41.37.
