Silva, Medeiros Lead Hounds at New England Invitational
White River Junction, Vt. -- Led by a first-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly by freshman Katherine Medeiros (Mattapoisett, Mass./Bishop Stang), the Assumption women’s swimming team took part in the New England Invitational on Saturday at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center. Medeiros set school records in both the 50-yard and 100-yard butterfly in the competition.
Medeiros captured the 50 fly with a time of 27:67, while also finishing second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:00.79. In addition, she also anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished second in that event with a time of 3:48.86. In the 400 relay, the Hounds “B” team placed fourth overall with a time of 3:55.00.
Junior Kerry Silva (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) also swam well for the Hounds, finishing with a trio of top-five finishes. She finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:22.39, along with third in the 200 free at 1:59.98 and fifth in the 400 IM in a time of 4:51.08. Sophomore Monique Haney (Rialto, Calif./Bloomington) finished just in front of Silva in the 400 IM as she was fourth in 4:51.00. Haney also placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing in 11:08.77. Junior Amanda Guy (Lakeville, Mass./Apponequet) was fifth in the 1000 free, finishing in a time of 11:30.38.
Sophomore Carly Eckles (Sherborn, Mass./Dover-Sherborn) placed fourth in the 50-yard backstroke in 29.79, while Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week Elise Prayson (Dayton, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) was fifth in the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 32.76.
Assumption’s 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay teams each finished in fifth in their races, finishing in times of 1:47.03 and 1:58.44, respectively.
The Greyhounds are back in action on Friday, November 11th as the teams host Mount Holyoke at the Plourde Recreation Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.
