Hounds Sweep Le Moyne and Pace in Swimming Tri-Meet
Worcester, Mass. (November 13) -- The Assumption College women’s swimming team defeated Le Moyne College and Pace University in a tri-meet at the Plourde Recreation Center on Sunday afternoon. The Hounds downed Le Moyne by a 177-78 margin, along with a 168-93 victory over Pace to complete the sweep.
Freshman Elise Prayson (Dayton, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) set a school record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:33.53, winning the event by 6.01 seconds. In addition, Prayson also set a pool record in the 50 breaststroke with a first-place finish in 32.88.
Kerry Silva (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) set a pair of pool records, taking the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:55.73, along with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:22.61. Carly Eckles (Sherborn, Mass./Dover-Sherborn) also set a pool record of 2:13.30 in winning the 200 backstroke, while Jennifer Ryan (Weston, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) captured the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.98. Ryan was also second in the 100-yard freestyle in 56.95, along with freshman Katherine Medeiros (Mattapoisett, Mass./Bishop Stang) at third in 56.99 as both swimmers beat the previous pool record. Eckles also finished second in the 50-yard backstroke in 29.32 to beat the previous pool record, while Medeiros was second in the 50-yard freestyle at 26.30, just .17 back.
Sophomore Monique Haney (Rialto, Calif./Bloomington) swam well in three events, including a victory in the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.32. She also placed second in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:03.76, along with a third-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:15.40, which beat the previous pool record.
The Greyhound 400-yard medley relay team also set a pool record on the evening, finishing in 4:10.60 in the tri-meet.
The Hounds are back in action on Friday November 18th as the team hosts WPI and the University of Bridgeport for a 3 p.m. start.
