400 Medley Relay Team Sets School Record at URI Invitational
North Kingstown, R.I. (December 2) -- After day one at the Harold Anderson Invitational, the Assumption College women’s swimming team currently sits in third place out of six teams. The event, which features five Division I programs, is hosted by the University of Rhode Island.
Highlighting the meet was a school-record performance in the 400-yard medley relay as the Hounds beat the previous mark by six seconds, finishing in a time of 4:02.10. That team was made up of sophomore Carly Eckles (Sherborn, Mass./Dover-Sherborn), freshman Elise Prayson (Dayton, Ohio/Archbishop Alter), freshman Katherine Medeiros (Mattapoisett, Mass./Bishop Stang) and junior Jennifer Ryan (Weston, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas).
Junior Kerry Silva (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) placed fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:15.58 to highlight the individual competition as the Hounds totaled 169 points over the first day. Medeiros also posted a top-10 performance in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in ninth place in a time of 25.46.
URI leads with 298 points, followed by Providence College with 206. Assumption leads the University of Maine (155), Bryant University (144) and Holy Cross (63) in the overall standings.
