Hounds Set 11 School Records at Harold Anderson Invitational
North Kingstown, R.I. -- The Assumption women’s swimming team set 11 school records and had 36 personal bests over the weekend at the Harold Anderson Invitational, hosted by the University of Rhode Island. The Hounds placed fourth out of six teams at the event with a total of 485.50 points against five Division I programs.
Freshman Katherine Medeiros (Mattapoisett, Mass./Bishop Stang) played a role in seven of the records set over the weekend as she four individual marks and was a member of three record-setting relay teams. Individually, she set marks in the 50-yard fly (27.54), the 50-yard freestyle (25.46), the 100-yard fly (58.69.) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.30). Medeiros finished in second overall in the 100-fly, along with a fourth-place finish in the 100-free.
Freshman Elise Prayson (Dayton, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) continued to rewrite the breaststroke record book as she set the school marks in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes, breaking her own marks. In the 100, Prayson finished up in 1:09.42, along with a time of 2:31.10 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Other individual school records including Kerry Silva (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) in the 1650-yard freestyle, as well as Carly Eckles (Sherborn, Mass./Dover-Sherborn) breaking her own mark in the 100-yard backstroke. Silva finished first in a time of 18:01.96 to break the previous school mark by 30 seconds, while Eckles touched in 1:01.41 to break her own school record. Silva also finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 10:55.
Sophomore Monique Haney (Rialto, Calif./Bloomington) posted a pair of second-place finishes as well, placing second in the 400 IM in 4:38.66, along with a time of 2:09.71 to finish second in the 200-yard fly.
In the relays, the Hounds set marks in the 400 medley, the 200 medley and the 400 freestyle relay. In the 400 medley, the team of Eckles, Prayson, Medeiros and Jennifer Ryan (Weston, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) finished up in 4:02.10. In the 200 medley, it was the team of Eckles, Prayson, Maureen Quirk (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) and Medeiros that set the school mark by finishing in a time of 1:53.28. The final record, the 400 freestyle relay, came in a time of 3:41.86 by the team of Medeiros, Silva, Quirk and Ryan.
The Hounds are now idle until January when the team travels to Holy Cross on January 20th and 21st to take part in the Worcester City Championships.
