Men's Track & Field Sits in Seventh After First Day of NE10 Championships

THE BASICS:

- Locations: Easton, Mass. (Stonehill College)

- Place: 7th/10

- The Lead: The Assumption College women's track & field team opened up the first day of competition with some strong performances to sit in seventh after one day of the NE10 Championships.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Junior Alex Cerbo (Cranston, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) came through with a strong finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 52.89 meters to place third in the event.

- Freshman Justin Ireland (Norton, Mass. / Norton) reached the final of the 100 meters by finishing in a school-record time of 10.81, just 0.02 ahead of the previous record. He will be seeded fourth going into the final on Sunday. Ireland also qualified for the 200 meter final with a time of 22.11 in his heat

- In the javelin, John Plisko (Moosic, Pa. / Riverside) took fifth with a distance of 54.04 meters while Joseph Bretta (Westborough, Mass. / Westborough) placed eighth with a 51.6 meter throw.

- The Assumption 4x800 relay took seventh and set a new school record with its time of 8:00.54. Elijah Fossas (Dudley, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) started the the relay, followed by Daniel McDermott (Lowell, Mass. / Lowell), William Mardo (Lowell, Mass. / Lowell) and Jeremy Alley-Tarter (Oak Bluffs, Mass. / Martha's Vineyard).

- The Hounds return to action Friday, May 12 as they compete in the New England Championships hosted by Williams College.
