Greyhounds Win Fourth Straight With 75-59 Road Victory

Syracuse, N.Y. (February 19) -- After jumping out to a 47-22 halftime lead, Assumption ran its winning streak to four straight with a 75-59 victory over Le Moyne at Ted Grant Court on Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds have clinched a bye in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Tournament and are currently ranked third in the latest NCAA East Region Poll.

The Greyhounds shot 59.3 percent from the field in the opening half and opened the second half on a 9-0 run to push the lead to 56-22 with 16 minutes remaining in the second period. The Dolphins battled back to make it a 15-point game with 3:59 left before the Greyhounds came away with the victory to remain tied with Franklin Pierce for second place in the Northeast-10 Conference standings with one regular-season game remaining.

A trio of Greyhounds led the scoring for Assumption with 17 points each, including a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double from senior Molly Griffiths (Walpole, Mass./Ursuline Academy). Kelly Meredith (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) was 11-for-12 from the free throw line and scored 17, along with 17 from sophomore Gabrielle Gibson (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague). Gibson had 13 first-half points to help the Greyhounds to the 25-point halftime advantage.

Courtney Coryea was the lone Dolphin in double figures as she finished with a game-high 23 points, along with 12 rebounds.

Assumption improves to 19-6 overall and 17-4 in the Northeast-10, while Le Moyne falls to 7-18 overall and 4-17 in league play. The Greyhounds are back in action on Wednesday night as Southern Connecticut visits Laska Gym for a 5:30 p.m. start. On Wednesday, the Greyhounds will honor senior Molly Griffiths as part of the Senior Day ceremony.
