Hounds Fall at Saint Rose by 69-42 Final on Tuesday
Albany, N.Y. (February 14) – An early second-half run by Saint Rose put the Golden Knights in control as Assumption dropped a 69-42 final on Tuesday evening at Nolan Gymnasium in Northeast-10 Conference play. Assumption is receiving votes in this week's USA Today/ESPN Division II National Top 25 Poll.
With the score tied at 6-6 with 14:34 left in the opening half, the Golden Knights put together an 8-0 run over the next 3:45 to open up a 14-6 advantage with 12 minutes on the clock. The lead stretched to as many as nine before the Hounds cut the lead down to four at 24-20 on a three from Katy Howard (Medway, Mass./Medway) with 3:17 left. The Hounds got to within four again at 31-27 before a jumper from the top of the key by Saint Rose made it a 33-27 halftime margin. The Hounds were led in the period by senior All-American candidate Kelly Meredith (Franklin, Mass./Franklin), who had 14 points in the half, including nine of their last 14 points in the period.
In the second period, the Golden Knights stretched the lead into double digits on a three-pointer from Ola Shajuyigbe and led by as many as 28 points en route to the victory as the two teams split the regular-season series.
Meredith led the Hounds with 24 points, including 10 of Assumption's 15 second-half points.
With the loss, the Hounds fall to 17-7 overall and 14-6 in Northeast-10 play, while the Golden Knights improve to 16-8 overall and 13-7 in the league.
Assumption is back in action on Saturday, February 18 as the Hounds host Pace University for a 1:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym. The Hounds will hold Senior Day prior to the start of the game, which is the final regular-season home game in 2011-12.
