Greyhounds Cruise to 17-12 Victory Over SCSU
New Haven, Conn. (April 3) -- The Assumption College women's lacrosse team earned a 17-12 victory over Southern Conn. State University to improve to 7-4 on Wednesday evening. With the victory the Greyhounds are now 4-3 in Northeast-10 Conference play, while SCSU falls to 1-7 overall and 0-6 in league play.
Five Greyhounds recorded hat tricks in the win, led by junior Kathryn Beall (Shrewbury, Mass. / Shrewsbury) who scored a team-high four goals. Sophomore Amy McNeil (Orange, Conn. / Amity), Junior Lindsay Hagerman (Scarborough, Maine / Scarborough), senior Michelle Santos (Holliston, Mass. / Holliston), and sophomore Camille Auger (Kennebunk, Maine / Kennebunk) also had hat tricks in the victory.
Senior Steph O'Rourke (Amherst, N.H. / Souhegan) had the final goal for the Greyhounds.
Assumption jumped out to a 10-0 lead over the first 16 minutes of action as Auger started and ended the Greyhound scoring run with a goal. McNeil scored all three of her goals during that stretch, while Beall and Santos each scored twice for Assumption over the first 16 minutes. O'Rourke also added a goal during the 10-goal run.
The run started on Auger's goal at the 28:22 mark in the first half to start the run and ended on her goal at the 14:12 mark in the half.
The Owls cut into the Greyhound lead with four-consecutive goals of their own as Sarah Cebry and Sarah Muise each scored twice. SCSU cut the lead to six, 10-4, with 9:35 to play in the half on Muise's second goal.
Hagerman ended the Owl run with her first marker of the night at the 8:51 mark in the first half. The Owls Muise answered with her third goal of the half but the Greyhounds scored once more before the break to carry a 12-5 lead into intermission.
Coming out of halftime, Assumption regained control with three of the first four goal of the half to take a nine-goal lead, 15-6. Hagerman, Auger, and Santos all recorded their hat tricks during that stretch, capped by a goal by Santos with 18:16 to play.
The Greyhounds extended the lead back to 10 goals, 17-7, with Beall's fourth goal of the evening before the Owls scored the final five goals of the contest.
Assumption held a slight edge on the draw control, 17-14, as Beall and O'Rourke led the way with four draw control's each. Assumption all out shot SCSU by a 34-28 margin and held a slim 17-16 edge in ground balls.
The Greyhounds are back in action on Friday, April 5th as the team will travel to Rindge, N.H. to take on Franklin Pierce University. The game will begin at 4 p.m.
