McNeil Pushes Greyhounds Past Mercy

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. (April 20) -- The Assumption College women's lacrosse team edged Mercy College, 11-10, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds improve to 9-7 on the season and clinch their first winning season in 11 years. With the victory, Assumption ties the single-season mark for wins in a season, equaling the 2002 team. With the loss, Mercy falls to 6-6 overall on the season.

Including this victory, four of the Greyhounds nine wins this season have come by one goal, with non-conference overtime victories over Grand Valley State University and Queens College.

Sophomore Amy McNeil (Orange, Conn. / Amity) scored with nine seconds to play to give the Greyhounds the one-goal victory.

McNeil and Lindsay Hagerman (Scarborough, Maine, Scarborough) each scored four goals in the win while senior Steph O'Rourke (Amherst, N.H. / Souhegan) scored one goal and assisted another to record her 100th career point.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 3-0 lead on goals by McNeil, O'Rourke, and Hagerman. Mercy responded with four straight goals to capture a 4-3 lead before Hagerman went on a personal 3-0 run to close the half. Hagerman's first goal of the run was assisted by O'Rourke at the 5:07 mark in the half, giving the senior her historic 100th point. She becomes the eighth Greyhound in school history to reach 100 points, joining teammate McNeil on that list.

Hagerman scored two more goals, including one with six second to play in the half to give Assumption a 6-4 lead heading into the break.

Mercy came out of the half and tied the game at six and then teams traded goals as Mercy tied the score at 10 as Michelle Tiernan scored the game-tying goal with 1:50 to play in regulation, setting up McNeil for the game-winning score.

Mercy won the draw and had possession on the ensuing play but the Greyhounds caused a turnover, giving Assumption another possession.

McNeil found the back of the net off an assist by sophomore Camille Auger (Kennebunk, Maine / Kennebunk). McNeil won the ensuing draw control to seal the victory for Assumption.

The Greyhounds are back in action on April 23rd at 5:30 p.m. against Adelphi University. That game will conclude the Greyhounds 2013 campaign.
