WORCESTER, Mass. - The Assumption College Women's Soccer team was picked fifth in the Northeast-10 Preseason Poll in a vote of the league's 15 head coaches, as announced by the conference on Thursday.

Adelphi earned the top spot in the poll with 185 points and six first place votes while defending champion Southern New Hampshire was just five points behind (180) and also had six first place votes. Franklin Pierce (166) and Saint Rose (158) rounded out the top four while the Hounds had 141 and one first place vote to place fifth.

Last season Assumption finished the season sixth in the conference and upset Saint Rose 3-0 in the Quarterfinals. The Hounds then took eventual champion Southern New Hampshire to the brink, playing to a 1-1 draw through two overtime periods before falling in penalty kicks to the Penmen. The Hounds lose just one starter to graduation from last year and return NE10 Player of the Year and Third-Team All-American Kallie Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown).

This year Assumption opens the season on Aug. 31 when the Hounds travel to face NYIT at 12 p.m.
