Villemaire's Overtime Goal Leads Women's Soccer past Stonehill, 3-2

THE BASICS:

-Records: Assumption (2-2-0, 1-0-0 NE10), Stonehill (4-1-0, 1-1-0 NE10)

-Location: Easton, Mass. (Skyhawk Field)

-The Lead: Kallie Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) scored with four minutes and 59 seconds left in the second overtime to lead the Hounds past Stonehill, 3-2, in the NE10 opener for the Hounds on a wet Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-After playing through regulation and the first overtime period tied at two, Villemaire sent the Hounds home with a 3-2 win over the Skyhawks when she scored within the 106th minute. Diana Bruggeman (Natick, Mass. / Natick) assisted Villemaire on the goal.

-Assumption survived two late shots by the Skyhawks, as Alexis Nason (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) saved a header by Camryn Thompson and another shot by Nicole Geraghty went high with just under two minutes left in regulation.

-The two teams were tied at two going into halftime. Senior Ania Spina (Wallingford, Conn. / Mark T. Sheehan) had one goal and one assist in the first half, scoring at the 26:02 mark to tie the game at one. She then assisted on Bruggeman's goal that tied the game at two.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Assumption held a 22-18 shot advantage for the game as well as a 3-2 shot advantage in overtime. Assumption also held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks, producing five kicks within the first half.

-Nason made five saves throughout the contest and improved to 2-2-0 on the year. Stonehill goalie, Kaitlin Brown, made six saves throughout the contest but fell to 4-1-0 on the year.

-Villemaire, Bruggeman and Spina all had one goal and one assist during Wednesday's matchup. Villemaire now has four goals and two assists through her team's first four games, while Bruggeman scored her first career goal and added her first career assist. Spina now has one goal and three assists on the year.

-"It was great to see this group put together a complete game," said Assumption coach Grace Barnard. "We've been asking our team to start the game on a high note and we did just that today. Awesome team effort, especially to get the win like that in overtime."
