Assumption Women's Tennis Team Splits Opening Tri-Match
Dudley, Mass. (September 10) -- The Assumption women's tennis team earned a split of a tri-match in its season opener on Saturday afternoon at Nichols College. The Greyhounds defeated Rhode Island College by an 8-1 final in the first match before falling to Nichols by a 5-4 score in the second match.
In the RIC match, each of the Hound victories came in straight sets, including Meghan Hall (Pembroke, Mass./Notre Dame) posting a score of 6-0 and 6-0 in her two victories.
Erica Micciche (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) also played well for the Hounds, winning by scores of 6-0 and 6-2, while Marissa Charles (Mystic, Conn./Saint Bernard) defeated Taylor Clark, 6-1 and 6-1.
In the Nichols match, Micciche and Abby Blaisdell (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) teamed up for a pair of doubles wins for the Greyhounds, posting 8-2 and 8-3 victories from the second flight. Assumption only dropped one double competition between the two matches.
Chrissy Lyon (Holden Mass./Worcester Academy) picked up a 7-6 (7-3) and 2-0 victory for the Hounds after her opponent was forced to retire.
Assumption moves to 1-1 on the season with the split.
The Hounds play next in the Salve Regina Grass Courts Tournament in Newport, R.I. on Sept. 17 at 1 p.m.
