Women's Tennis Takes Down New Haven on Senior Day

- The lead: The Assumption College women's tennis team earned a convincing 8-1 win over New Haven today on senior day, as the Hounds honored senior Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) and classmate Shannon Tarpey (Melrose, Mass. / Melrose High School) before the match.


-  The Hounds swept the doubles competition as Burbine and freshman Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) improved to 10-2 on the season out of No. 1 doubles. Sophomore Maria Monje (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Name) and freshman Valeria Sanchez (Carolina, P.R. / Colegio La Piedad) won at No. 2 doubles (8-1), while sophomore Camille Latoni (San Juan, P.R. / Academia Maria Reina) and Tarpey won at No. 3 doubles 8-2.

- Chappell and Latoni won straight sets 6-0, 6-0 out of the second and sixth flight, while junior Paige Benoit (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian Central Catholic) won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

- Monje and Sanchez wrapped up the win for the Hounds, as Monje defeated Angela Mercurio 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and Sanchez beat Ashley Varrone 6-1, 6-2 out of the fifth flight.



-Assumption returns to action this Saturday when they travel to Easton, Massachusetts to take on Stonehill at 3:00 p.m.
