Field Hockey Drops Southern New Hampshire 3-2

THE BASICS:

-Score: Assumption 3, Southern New Hampshire 2

-Records: Assumption (5-5, 3-2 NE10), Southern New Hampshire (5-4, 2-3 NE10)

-Location: Manchester, N.H. (Larkin Field )

-The Lead: Senior Allison Sheahan (Higganum, Conn. /Haddam-Killingworth) scored her second game winning goal this week and tallied another goal and assist to lead the Hounds to a 3-2 victory over Southern New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  With 22:44 left in the first half Assumption netted the first goal of the game to make the score 1-0. Sophomore Kristen McCarthy (Danvers, Mass/ Danvers) scored off an assit from Sheahan. 

- Sheahan then registered a set of unassisted back-to-back goals just 52 seconds apart to bring the Hounds to a 3-0 lead. 

- Assumption did not score a goal in the second half but Penmen forward Maddie Holt registered two goals to cut the deficit 3-2.  In the last three minutes of the game Southern New Hampshire had a chance to force overtime when Amaris Taylor took a shot, but Hound goaltender Sarah Bodzinski (Southwick, Mass./ Southwick Tolland Regional) made the save to end the game 3-2. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- The Southern New Hampshire offense outshot Assumption 17-9 but the Hounds produced two more penalty corners. 

- Bodzinski made 12 saves to lead the Assumption defense while Penmen goaltender Melanie Rennie made two saves in the loss. 

UP NEXT:

- Next week, October 4, the Hounds will travel to Stonehill to face the Skyhawks at 4 pm in an NE10 Conference match.
