WORCESTER, Mass. -Following a trip to the NCAA East Regionals, men's golf had four players and coach John O'Hara earn Northeast 10 All-Conference recognition, highlighted by Lucas Roop (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) earning Rookie of the Year.
Roop was named Rookie of the Year, while coach John O'Hara earned Coach of the Year for the NE10. Sophomore Andrew Sanzaro (Wethersfield, Conn.,/ Wethersfield) was named to the NE10 First-Team, while junior Mark Bryant (Hardwick, N.J.,/North Warren Regional) was named to the Second-Team.
Roop played in 20 rounds for Assumption during the year and averaged 76.85 strokes per round. He shot a 69 at the AIC Invitational at Veterans Golf Course in Springfield, Massachusetts, which ties him for lowest round by an Assumption golfer ever.
O'Hara led the team to its second NCAA Regionals appearance, where the team tied for ninth in a field of 20 teams and had one golfer place sixth overall in the region. His team was ranked as high as fourth in the East Region throughout the year and at the 2018 NE10 Championships Assumption placed third overall, its highest finish in ten years.
Sanzaro has been one of the top golfers for the Hounds this year and played in all 21 rounds. He tied for 37th at the NCAA DII East/Atlantic Regional. In his best outing, he placed first at the Mike Bello Spring Invitational at Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse, New York.
Bryant earns his first All-Conference honor for the Hounds after playing in all 21 rounds and averaging 75.42 strokes per round. He shot a 69 at the Penmen Fall Invitational which ties him for lowest round by an Assumption golfer ever. He also shot a 70 in the third round at the NCAA DII East/Atlantic Regional at Totteridge Golf Course in Greensburg, Pennsylvania which helped him tie for sixth overall at the NCAA DII East/ Atlantic Regional, the highest finish at an East regional for an Assumption golfer.
