Quick Overtime Goal Leads to 1-0 Loss For Men's Ice Hockey

THE BASICS:

- Score: Worcester St. 1, Assumption 0

- Records: Worcester St. (11-9-1, 6-7-1 MASCAC), Assumption (14-7-3, 7-5-3 NE10)

-Location: Worcester, Mass. (Buffone Arena)

-The lead: After playing to a scoreless tie through regulation, the Worcester State Lancers scored just 33 seconds into overtime to defeat the Assumption Greyhounds 1-0 on Senior Day for the Hounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Thirty-three seconds into overtime, the Lancer's Mitch Purdie gathered in a loose puck and took Assumption goalie David Altman (Bristol, R.I. / Northern Cyclones (EHL)) on one-on-one. Purdie put a shot on net in which Altman made the initial block. However, the puck rolled up Altman's body and into the back of the net for the game-winning score.

-The goal came after a period in which the Hounds dominated. They outshot the Lancers 13-3 in the third period and placed several shots on net after going on the power play with 2:10 remaining. Unfortunately for the Hounds, Worcester St. goalie Ryan Hoff turned away everything he faced.

-Worcester St. had a chance to on their first shot of the game. Nick Pennucci placed a shot on net that was turned away by the post.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Assumption outshot the Lancers 38-21. The Hounds were 0-for-6 on the power play, while Worcester St. went 0-for-4.

-Altman made 20 saves on 21 shots but fell to 0-2 on the year. Hoff saved all 38 shots he faced and improved to 1-0 on the year.

-The Hounds honored all six seniors prior to the game. This year's senior class has won 49 games so far through their four years together, has qualified for the postseason in each of the previous three season and has produced the best winning percentage as a class since the class of 1994.

UP NEXT:

-The Hounds travel to Post on Friday, February 15, for the first game of a weekend series that concludes their season. Puck is set to drop at 8 p.m.
