Men's Soccer Defeat Roberts Wesleyan 1-0 in Overtime

BASICS:

Score: Assumption 1, Roberts Wesleyan 0

Location: Worcester, Mass. (Multi-Sport Stadium)

The Lead: Sophomore Jason Lages (Edgartown, Mass./Martha's Vineyard Regional) tallied the game-winning goal with 5:46 left in the first overtime to lead the Hounds to a 1-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- At 12:05, Roberts Wesleyan almost went up 1-0 when Redhawk forward Marko Mitrevski hit the post, but the Hound defense was able to get the rebound and regain possession.

- In the second half the Hounds tallied 13 shots, freshman Kevin Hernandez (San Juan, P.R. / Colegio San Jose) kept the offense pressure on with scoring chances from the box but Redhawk goalkeeper John Ciavaglia remained impenetrable.

- With 5:46 left in the first overtime, Lages got a free kick right outside the box and beat the Roberts Wesleyan goalkeeper in the right upper corner. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Hounds sophomore goalkeeper Brian Murray (Camas, Wash./ Camas) made three saves in his shutout to improve his record to 2-2, while Ciavaglia was saddled with the loss after making six saves.

- The Hounds outshot the Redhawks 19-14, and recorded three more corner kicks.

UP NEXT:

- Next Tuesday the Hounds are on the road to face Bentley at 3:30 pm to open NE10 conference play.
