Holyoke, Mass. (November 7) -- On Friday night, the Assumption College women's swimming and diving team picked up a 178-106 dual meet victory over Mount Holyoke College as the Hounds captured two relay wins and eight individual victories.
In the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays, the Hounds picked up victories to help key the dual meet victory. In the 200 medley, the team of junior Victoria Weber (Augusta, Maine/Cony), sophomore Rachel Gagnon (Tolland, Conn./Tolland), senior Katherine Medeiros (Mattapoisett, Mass./Bishop Stang) and freshman Carylyn Waite (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) touched in a time of 1:51.36. In the 200 freestyle relay, the Hounds finished in 1:42.99 with the team of junior Rachel Ferris (Stephentown, N.Y./Berlin), Medeiros, sophomore Tricia Lee (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) and freshman Bella Omobono (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford).
Gagnon and Waite each picked up a pair of victories in the meet, while Lanam, Lee, Medeiros and freshman Niamh Morgan (Bettystown, Ireland/Sacred Heart School) captured events as well. Gagnon won the 100 and 200 breaststroke, while Waite was victorious in both the 50 free and 100 free. In addition, Waite added a runner-up finish in the 200 free in a time of 1:58.11 as the Hounds took three of the top five in the 200. Gagnon won the 100 in 1:07.95, along with a time of 2:32.54 while winning the 200. After Waite won the 50 free in a time of 25:38, she came back to win the 100 free as she touched in 55.05. In the 100 free, Weber placed second in a time of 55.59 to go along with her runner-up finish in the 100 fly in a time of 1:03.05. In the 100 fly, Medeiros claimed victory in a time of 1:00.54 as the Hounds took four of the top five spots in the event.
Sophomore Rachel Lanam (Sebastian, Fla./Sebastian River) enjoyed a solid meet with a win in the 1000 free and runner-up finishes in both the 200 fly and the 500 free. After capturing first in the 1000 free with a time of 11:13.16, she followed that with a second-place swim in the 200 fly in 2:17.08 as Assumption took four of the top five spots. Rounding out her meet was the 500 free in a time of 5:29.19 as the Hounds swept the top three finishers.
Morgan posted a trio of top-two finishes, including a win in the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:09.66. In addition to the win, she also finished second in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.91 (lost by just .06) and the 400 IM in a time of 4:43.93.
The final win for Assumption came in the 500 freestyle, where Lee won the event by nearly five seconds in a time of 5:24.79. In addition to the victories, Omobono was second in the 1000 free in 11:17.12, while freshman Courtney Barr (Waltham, Mass./Matignon) placed second in the 200 back in 2:14.34 as the Hounds took four of the top five places in the event.
Assumption is back in action on Saturday, November 8th as the Hounds host Pace University and Roger Williams for a 4 p.m. start at the Plourde Recreation Center Pool.
