WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption's swimming and diving team had an outstanding weekend last week, earning second place in the Worcester City Championships, which earned Shannon Quirk (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) the Northeast-10 Swimmer of the Week honor while Brianna Buckle (Garden Grove, Calif./Mater Dei High School) earned NE10 Rookie of the Week and the 200 Medley Relay Team composed of Anne Guadalupi (Augusta, Maine.Cony), Isabelle Roberts (Nantucket, Mass./Nantucket), Abbey Holmes (Laurel, Md./Archbishop Spalding), and Buckle earned NE10 Relay Team of the Week.
Quirk had an amazing performance at the Worcester City Championships and earned first place in the 1000 free with a time of 10:50.72 while she also helped the 800 free relay team earn a second place finish with a time of 8:03.63. Quirk also earned first place in the 500 free with a time of 5:16.78 along with a fourth place finish in the 200 free (2:02.8). Quirk's 1000 free and 500 free time are the fastest in the conference for this week.
Buckle helped lead her team to a second place finish at the Worcester City Championships. She took second in the 100 butterfly at a time of 1:00.77, which is the fastest time in the conference for this week. She also contributed to a second place finish in the 400 Medley Relay, which beat the meet record and also was ranked fourth in the country at a time of 4:01.63. Buckle was also a part of the first place 200 medley relay team at a time of 1:50.26, which is ranked the tenth fastest time in the country.
The relay team swam to a first place finish in 1:50.26 at the Worcester City Championships this past weekend. This time earned the tenth fastest time in the country.
The team is back in action Saturday, November 10, as they take on Sacred Heart University.
