Men’s Track Impresses at Sorlein Invitational

THE BASICS:

- Event: Sorlein Invitational

- Location: Mackal Field House (Kingston, R.I.)

- The Lead: Assumption had a number of top-five finishes despite facing an impressive field of primarily Division I competition this Saturday at the Sorlein Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Sophomore Joseph Santos (Warwick, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with his time of 8.59 seconds, just shy of his own school record. In the 400 meters, classmate Everett Pirtle (Northborough, Mass. / Algonquin) placed sixth in 51.06 seconds while Christopher Carey (South Dennis, Mass. / Dennis-Yarmouth) was 13th in 53.82 seconds.

- Junior William Mardo (Cumberland, R.I. / Cumberland) came through with a fourth place finish in the 1000 meters with his time of 2:34.73. In the 1 mile race, senior Andrew Mongiat (Waterboro, Maine / Massabesic) placed 15th in the event with a time of 4:30.97.

- Sophomore Cameron Donoghue (Yarmouth Port, Mass. / Barnstable) took 11th in the long jump with a distance of 6.22 meters. Freshman Samuel Baker (Bedford, Mass. / Shawsheen), meanwhile, tied for seventh in the triple jump with his distance of 12.82 meters.

- In the 800 meters, junior Daniel DeLuca (Riverside, R.I / East Providence) placed 13th in 2:03.40. Sophomore Jonathan Wahl (Chepachet, R.I. / Ponaganset) placed fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:02.72 while classmate Shawn Scullion (Candiac, Que. / Heritage Regional) finished in 9:17.35.

- Assumption's 4x400 relay came through with a sixth place finish with its time of 3:40.32. Pirtle led off the relay, followed by Derek Girouard (Chicopee, Mass. / Chicopee), Kyle Belmonte (Charlton, Mass. / Shepherd Hill) and Carey.

- Junior William Bennett (Tewksbury, Mass. / Tewksbury) placed 10th in the shot put with his distance of 13.72 meters while Dillon Bruso (Auburn, Mass. / Auburn) placed 13th with a 13.44 meter throw. Freshman Kristopher Selanis (Athol, Mass. / Athol) had the best weight throw, taking 18th with a distance of 13.02 meters.

UP NEXT:

- The team returns to action on Jan. 26 when they take part in John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University and also the USM Open at Southern Maine.
