WORCESTER, Mass. – Following a victory over nationally ranked Mercy on Sunday, women's lacrosse is now ranked 12th in the latest Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Poll and 21st in the most recent Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Coaches Poll, both of which were released on Monday.
Assumption came back from a three-goal deficit in the final 12 minutes to upend then No. 10 Mercy 12-11. Meghan Cushing (Gorham, Maine / Gorham) scored the game-winning goal with 4:27 left and the defense did the rest to preserve the victory.
The No. 12 ranking in the NikeUS Lacrosse Poll is the highest in program history. Defending National Champion Le Moyne is No. 1, followed by fellow NE10 foe Adelphi at no. 2. Bentley (16) and Pace (17) are also ranked in the top 20.
In the IWLCA Poll, the No. 21 ranking is the best in program history, surpassing last year's No. 23 ranking. Le Moyne and Adelphi sit at the top two spots, while Pace (11), New Haven (17) and Merrimack (19) are all ranked ahead of the Hounds. Assumption's 147 points has them just ten points behind 20th ranked Grand Valley State and 18 points behind Merrimack. Bentley is ranked 23rd, the seventh NE10 Team in the Poll.
The Hounds took to start 5-0 for the third time in program history on Saturday when they host Saint Michael's at 12 p.m.
