WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption women's rowing's Varsity 8 boat competed at the Head of the Charles Regatta for the first time in program history this past Sunday, with the Hounds moving a spot from their starting position in the race to take 26th.
The women were seeded 27th in the women's collegiate 8's event and navigated tough racing conditions, with high winds and a fast moving head current making the race. They were able to move up one spot over the course of the race and finish in 21:53.6. The Hounds edged Texas and High Point University while finishing less than a minute behind Manhattan and Binghamton. Bates won the event in 18:18.1.
Head Coach Aline Seekins was pleased with her team's effort. "Katie Danieli did a great job navigating the difficult course and steering the boat down the fastest route possible while avoiding other boats. This is the only head race these girls have seen that has multiple bridges and turns to go though and they were able to stay composed and rowed as if they were on their home course. I am very proud with how well the boat represented Assumption College Rowing at the 54th Head of the Charles Regatta."
