PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Assumption senior Abby Jones (Arlington, Mass. / Arlington) took first place in the Pentathlon, to lead the Hounds to a team victory at the URI Multi-Event Qualifier on Friday.
Jones earned a Division II provisional score of 3618 points, which is currently the third highest mark in the nation, while edging out Carly Paul from Brown who had 3582 points. Emma Santee (Westerly, R.I. / Westerly) was sixth with 3088 points, a new personal best.
In the high jump, Jones, jumped an NCAA provisional height of 5'5.75" and took second. She also won the long jump in a distance of 18'3.25 feet, which set a new school record. Santee, meanwhile, took third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:29.31 while Therese Rembetsy-Brown (Westminster, Mass. / Oakmont Regional) was third in the shot put with a distance of 34'1.25".
The whole team returns to action on January 11, when they compete at the Spartan Invitational on Staten Island.
