WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption College women's track & field team looks to make some noise in this year's NE10 Championship, as the The Hounds were selected third in the Pre-Championship Poll, as voted on by the leagues head coaches.
The Hounds look to improve from their fourth place finish last year. Assumption sits 15 points ahead of Franklin Pierce and just six points beyond last year's runner-up, Southern Connecticut. Defending NE10 Champion, Stonehill, looks to continue its dominance in hopes for another NE10 Championship. Stonehill is atop the coaches' poll with 121 points and 11 first place votes. The Hounds are led by second year coach, Trent Baltzell and look to at least match last season's program best finish. So far this year, Assumption has set nine school records, led by freshman Victoria Steffon (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett Regional) with three (55 m, 60m, 200m) and freshman Claudia Koontz (Concord, Mass. / Concord-Carlisle Regional) with two (300m, 400m). Senior Abby Jones (Arlington, Mass. / Arlington) has set three new school records (LJ, pent, 55m hurdles) while junior Emily Casella (Athol, Mass. / Athol) (SP), junior Nicole McMorrow (Milford, N.H. / Milford) (TJ), sophomore Amelie Legg (Hamden, N.Y. / Delaware Academy) (PV), and Olivia DeMonico (North Reading, Mass. / North Reading) (55m hurdles) have all set one record. Additionally, the team has set new records in the 4x200, 4x800 and the Distance Medley Relay.
This year's indoor championship will be hosted at the Smith College Track and Tennis Center with live results available throughout both days, along with a live stream that can be found on the NE10 Track Championships Page.
