Volleyball Falls Twice on Sunday

THE BASICS:

- Score: LIU Post 3, Assumption 0 (Game One)/ Post 3, Assumption 0 (Game Two)

- Records Game One: LIU Post (5-2), Assumption (0-3)

- Records Game Two: Post University (1-4), Assumption (0-4)

- Location: Brookville, N.Y. (Pratt Recreation Center)

- The Lead: Assumption had two hard-fought battles on Sunday but came up short in both matches, facing LIU Post and Post University, to conclude its weekend.

GAME ONE

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Assumption came out a little slow in the first set, letting LIU get a jump on them early. THe Pioneers came away with the first set 25-13. The Hounds had a great comeback in the second set, where they kept the lead early, pushing it to 16-12. However, LIU Post responded with a run to pull in front 19-17 and finished with the 25-20 win.

- The Hounds jumped out early in the third set to a 5-2 lead. They were unable to keep up the strong play and lost the set 25-14 to give the Pioneers the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Kellie Smith (Richland, Mich./Gull Lake) led the Hounds with six kills followed by teammates Alexandra Krawczyk (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) and Alana Hruska (Marlborough, Conn./RHAM) both with three. Hruska also had five blocks on the match.

- Kelly Dorandi (Plaistow, N.H./Methuen) of the Hounds ended the match with 11 digs, the second most in the match. Krawczyk ended the match with six digs, seven assists, and one kill to add to her three kills mentioned earlier.

GAME TWO:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- There were seven lead changes in the first set and Assumption led 11-10 early. Post responded with a run and eventually pulled away for the 25-15 win.

- The Eagles had a quick start in the second set, leading 5-0 before the Hounds put up their first point. Post went on to win the set 25-8. The Hounds battled through the third set, and trailed just 23-20 on a kill by Smith. Post responded with the final two points to come away with the victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Smith led the Hounds with seven kills in the match with teammate Tess Haller (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) right behind her with five.

- Dorandi had eight digs on the match with Krawczyk tallying five. Brenna Chrisom (Dover, N.H./Saint Thomas Aquinas) ended the match with nine assists while Krawczyk tallied eight.

- Assumption is back in action on Friday, September 7, at 7 p.m. at Bridgeport.
