Worcester, Mass. – The Assumption men's tennis team fell 9-0 to the visiting Penmen of Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday.
In doubles play, the third doubles tandem of John Niland (Cheshire, Conn.) and Tim Hamilton (Hampton, N.H.) pulled out a 9-7 victory over Nate Lafond (Goffstown, N.H.) and Rich Jakiel (New Britain, Conn.) of Assumption after trailing 7-6. In singles play, Jared Wright (Norwell, Mass.) got the biggest challenge at the No. 4 spot, but defeated Pat Murray (Cumberland, R.I.) in three sets, prevailing 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. Juan Arango-Campo (Armenia Quindio, Colombia) remained unbeaten in NE-10 play with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.
The Penmen improved to 9-5 overall and 9-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Greyhounds are now 2-8 and 1-6 in the conference. Assumption plays next this Saturday as they host Adelphi.
