Worcester, Mass. (September 25) -- The women's tennis team lost to Merrimack, 7-2, on Sunday.
The first doubles team of Christine Lyons (Holden, Mass/Worcester Academy) and Jennifer Erickson (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) defeated Shakee Messina and Courtney Garvey, 8-2. Lyons also played number one singles for the Hounds, and fell to Messina 6-2, 6-3. Head coach Kendyl Ahlgrim said Lyons battled against a tough competitor in her first conference match as a freshman.
Abby Blaisdell (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) battled through a three-set point, but ended up falling 6-1, 5-7, 7-5.
In number six singles, Marissa Charles (Mystic, Conn./Saint Bernard) defeated Kylie Waddington, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.
"She showed her seniority and fight with that victory," Ahlgrim said.
The Hounds fall to 1-2 with the loss and 0-1 in the Northeast-10.
The Hounds hit the courts next on Sept. 28th against Southern New Hampshire. The Hounds will host the match which will start at 4:00 p.m.
