Box Score Manchester, N.H. (January 14) -- The Assumption men's basketball team dropped an 83-71 road final at Saint Anselm on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Hawks built a 15-5 lead over the opening 3:21 and led from start to finish as the Hounds fell to 7-8 overall and 5-6 in Northeast-10 play.
In the first half, the two teams combined for 45 points in the opening 10:02 and Saint Anselm held a 27-18 lead after a baseline jumper from Assumption senior Kevin Donahue (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington). The Hawks kept up the offensive pressure though, shooting 66.7 percent from the field in the period and leading by as many as 22 points. The Hounds closed on a quick 8-2 run, including a three at the buzzer from Cory Schmidt (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh), to head into the half trailing 54-39.
In the second half, the Hounds cut the lead to 12 with just under six minutes left before the Hawks pushed it back out of reach, en route to the 83-71 final.
Ronson Quick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) led the Hounds with 18 points, along with 16 from Donahue and a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double from Tim Beinert (Bellerose Village, N.Y./Holy Cross).
Assumption is back in action on Tuesday evening when the Hounds travel to Franklin Pierce for a 7:30 p.m. start in Rindge, New Hampshire.
