Rozsnaki Nets Triple-Double in 85-81 Overtime Victory

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. (January 25) – Led by a 13-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist triple double from junior guard Ryan Rozsnaki (Montreal, Quebec/Landstown), the Assumption men's basketball team rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit to pull out an 85-81 overtime win over Saint Michael's on Wednesday night at Laska Gym. The triple-double is just the seventh in Assumption history and first since Andy Niedzwiecki vs. Saint Anselm in 1998.

Assumption built a 15-3 lead with just 5:45 into the first half after a three-pointer from sophomore Cory Schmidt (Center  Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and led by as many as 13 points at 27-14 with 9:18 left in the period. Saint Michael's answered with a 13-0 run over the next 4:54 though to tie the game at 27-27 and took its first lead of the game on a jumper from James Cambronne with four minutes left in the period. With the score 34-31 with 1:27 on the clock, the Purple Knights closed the period with five quick points to take a 39-31 lead into the halftime break.

Saint Michael's led by as many as 13 points in the second half and still held an eight-point lead at 66-58 with 4:20 left before the Hounds mounted a comeback. Senior Kevin Donahue (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) knocked down a three to get the 9-0 run started and Rozsnaki's layup with 1:37 remaining gave the Hounds their first lead of the period. Assumption built the lead up to three points after a pair of free throws by Tim Beinert (Bellerose Village, N.Y./Holy Cross), setting up one final Purple Knight possession with just four seconds remaining. The Purple Knights had their sights set on overtime and did just that as Corey Crawford drilled a three as the final buzzer sounded to send the game into the extra period.

In the overtime, the Hounds took the lead for good on a baseline jumper from Ronson Quick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) and led by as many as seven points in coming away with the win to snap a four-game losing streak.

The Hounds had five players in double figures for the first time all season, led by 17 points each from Beinert and Quick. Schmidt added 16 points, behind four three-pointers, along with 15 from Donahue and the career-high 13 points from Rozsnaki.

Tyler Schilling led three Purple Knights in double figures with 18 points, along with 16 from Mike Holton, Jr., and 14 from Crawford.

With the win, Assumption now sits at 8-10 overall and 6-8 in the Northeast-10, while Saint Michael's falls to 7-11 overall and 6-8 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Saturday, January 28th as the Hounds travel to Merrimack for a 3 p.m. start in North Andover, Mass.
