Hounds Roll Past Dominican for Third Straight

Orangeburg, N.Y. (November 18) -- After a back-and-forth first half, the Assumption College men's basketball team pulled away in the second half for a 64-52 win over Dominican on day two of the Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament, hosted by Dominican College.

In the first half, neither team led by more than four points and the teams traded the lead back and forth 10 times. With the game tied at 27-27 with 1:57 left in the half, a tip-in by Ronson Quick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) and a driving layup down the lane by Kevin Donahue (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) gave the Hounds the 31-27 lead with 42 seconds remaining. Dominican's Nick Smith knocked down a free throw with 24.1 seconds left though to send the game into the half at 31-28 in favor of the Hounds. Quick led all scorers in the first half with 12 points, knocking down 5-of-6 from the field in the period.

Dominican opened the second half on a quick 4-0 run and took its final lead of the game at 32-31 on a pair of free throws from Khaleev Ginyard. The teams were tied at 38 moments later before a 9-0 Assumption run, capped by a three from senior Tim Beinert (Bellerose Village, N.Y./Holy Cross), put the Hounds in front 47-38 with 9:51 remaining. Assumption led by as many as 15 points with 3:37 left in the game before coming away with the 64-52 victory.

Donahue and Quick led the Hounds with 15 points each, along with 11 points from sophomore Terrance Bobb-Jones (Wilmington, Del./Delcastle Voc-Tech). Freshman Tim Kasper (Cologne, Germany/Gymnasium Schloss Hagerhof) nearly registered a double-double with seven points and a team-high 10 rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench. Senior Ryan Rozsnaki (Montreal, Quebec/Landstown) led the team with eight assists as well as the Hounds only committed eight turnovers in the game overall.

Cory Quimby led the Chargers with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Ginyard finished with 10 points as well.

With the win, Assumption remains unbeaten at 3-0 overall, while Dominican drops to 3-2 on the season.

Assumption is back in action on Tuesday, November 20th as the Hounds travel to Southern Connecticut for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup beginning at 7:30 p.m.
