Box Score

Worcester, Mass. (December 17) -- No. 17 ranked Assumption rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to take a three-point lead with 3:56 remaining, but visiting Le Moyne closed the game on an 8-3 run to pull out the 66-64 victory to knock Assumption from the ranks of the unbeaten. The Hounds jumped seven spots last week to No. 17 in the NABC/Division II National Top-25 Poll.

Neither team led by more than four points in a first half that featured 10 ties. The game was tied at 31-31 with 1:53 remaining before a layup from sophomore Terrance Bobb-Jones (Wilmington, Del./Delcastle-Voc Tech) and a layup from senior Ronson Quick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) sent the game into the break with a 35-31 margin.

The Hounds pushed lead up to seven in the early second of the second half before a 16-2 Le Moyne run, capped by a three-pointer from Nate Champion, put the visitors up seven at 47-40 with 15:31 left. The lead stretched to 10 at 55-45 before Assumption answered with a 14-0 run and held the Dolphins without a field goal for eight minutes.

Le Moyne's Nate Gause nailed a jumper from near the free throw line to put the Dolphins ahead for good at 63-62 with 1:21 remaining and Jim Janson stretched the lead to three with a layup with 18 seconds left. Assumption cut the edge back down to one and had the ball down two with 4.2 seconds left, but turned the ball over near midcourt as the Dolphins won for just the fourth time ever at Laska Gym.

Quick paced three Hounds in double figures with 17 points, while graduate student Kevin Donahue (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) added 16 points and Bobb-Jones tallied 12 points. Senior point guard Ryan Rozsnaki (Montreal, Quebec/Landstown) nearly recorded a double-double as he finished with 10 rebounds and nine assists.

Janson finished with 15 points for the Dolphins as four Le Moyne players finished in double figures.

With the loss, Assumption falls to 8-1 overall and 6-1 in Northeast-10 play, while Le Moyne improves to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the league.

Assumption is idle until after Christmas now before returning to action at the East Coast Classic, hosted by Stonehill College. The Hounds take on Holy Family on December 29th, followed by a second non-conference contest on December 30th vs. Philadelphia University.
