Box Score

Albany, N.Y. (February 14) -- Saint Rose tied the game late in the second half before a three-pointer from junior Ronson Quick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) gave the Hounds the lead for good as Assumption defeated Saint Rose by a 60-55 final on Tuesday night at Nolan Gym. The win gives the Hounds a sweep of the regular-season series.

After falling behind 2-0 in the early moments, Assumption took a 3-2 lead on a three-pointer from Kevin Donahue (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) and extended that lead into double digits at 12-2 with 13:28 left in the first half. The Golden Knights answered to tie the game at 18-18, but back-to-back threes from Donahue and Quick made it a 24-18 margin with 4:31 remaining. The Hounds held Saint Rose to just two field goals over the final six minutes of the half and took a 33-25 lead into the halftime break.

Quick gave the Hounds a double-digit lead for the first time in the early going of the second as Assumption led 35-25 with 18:24 on the clock. Neither team put together a run over the next 10 minutes and the Hounds continued to hold an eight-point lead at 45-37 following a layup by Andre Pope with 8:32 in the half. Saint Rose did answer out of a timeout though and after a pair of layups from Dominykas Milka, the Golden Knights were within two at 51-49. On the ensuing possession, Kareem Thomas had a fastbreak layup, but he was defended by Quick and the ball went out of bounds to the Hounds with 3:41 left. Saint Rose made it a whole new ballgame just 59 seconds later though as Brian Hanuschak converted a pair of free throws to tie the game at 53-53.

The game was tied again at 55-55 before the Hounds regained the lead at 58-55 with 45 seconds remaining on a three from in front of the Assumption bench by Quick. After a Saint Rose miss on the next possession, Donahue was fouled with 12.8 seconds left and knocked down the second free throw to make it a 59-55 score as the Golden Knights called timeout. Quick added a free throw with 2.2 seconds left for the five-point final.

Donahue led the Hounds with 18 points, along with 17 from Quick and 12 from Tim Beinert (Bellerose Village, N.Y./Holy Cross).

With the win, the Hounds improve to 11-13 overall and 9-11 in Northeast-10 play, while Saint Rose drops to 5-19 overall and 5-15 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Saturday, February 18 as the Hounds host Pace University for a 3:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym. The Hounds will hold Senior Day prior to the start of the game, which is the final regular-season home game in 2011-12.
