Box Score

Worcester, Mass. (February 4) – Led by a career-high 33 points from captain Tim Beinert (Bellerose Village/Holy Cross), the Assumption men's basketball team swept the regular-season series from Le Moyne with an 89-82 overtime win over the Dolphins on Saturday at Laska Gym. The Hounds are now 21-3 all-time vs. Le Moyne at home and have won five straight overtime games over the Dolphins.

In the first half, the Dolphins jumped out to a seven-point lead at 21-14 before the Hounds put together a 9-4 run that was capped by a three from Cory Schmidt (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) to tie the game at 25-25. The teams traded the lead back and forth over the final eight minutes of the period before Beinert's hoop with nine seconds left gave the Hounds a 36-35 edge at the half.

In the second period, neither team led by more than four points and the game headed into the final 2:54 tied up at 71-71. Le Moyne's Nate Champion gave the Dolphins a 73-71 lead on a layup down the lane, but the Hounds answered right back with a three from Kevin Donahue (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) to regain the lead at 74-73 with 1:22 left. Champion, who scored the final six points of regulation for Le Moyne, put the Dolphins back in front before a free throw from Ronson Quick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) and two free throws from Donahue made it a 77-75 Assumption lead. Champion drilled a jumper from just inside the free throw line with five seconds left though to send the teams into overtime for the second time this season.

Le Moyne took a quick three-point lead in overtime on a three-point play from Jim Janson just nine seconds into the period, but that was quickly erased by the sixth three-pointer of the game from Donahue. Janson scored the final points of the evening for Le Moyne with 3:01 left before the Hounds closed the game on a 9-0 run to pull out the seven-point win.

Beinert led the team with 33 points and nine rebounds, while Quick also posted a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double. Schmidt added 11 points, while junior point guard Ryan Rozsnaki (Montreal, Quebec/Landstown) finished with a career-high 14 assists.

Champion led three Dolphins in double figures with 23 points to go along with nine assists.

With the win, Assumption improves to 9-12 overall and 7-10 in the Northeast-10, while Le Moyne falls to 11-10 overall and 7-10 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Wednesday, February 8th as the Hounds host the University of New Haven for a 7:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym.
