Shorthanded Greyhounds Knock Off Anna Maria With 6-3 Win

Worcester, Mass. (April 11) -- The Assumption College men's tennis team defeated Anna Maria College, 6-3, at the Assumption College tennis courts on Wednesday afternoon.

The Greyhounds won six of seven matches in which Assumption had players, but had to default at number six singles and number three doubles, which gave Anna Maria two points.

Assumption swept number one and two doubles by scores of 8-2 and 8-4 respectively.

Freshman Joseph Esposito took care of business at number one singles, winning 6-0, 6-0, and the Greyhounds won at singles three, four, and five as Richard Jakiel (New Britain, Conn./N.W. Catholic), Patrick Murray (Cumberland, R.I./Cumberland), and Jerry Reilly (Greenville, R.I./LaSalle Academy) each picked up points for Assumption.

The Greyhounds improve to 3-11 overall with the victory and return to action on Friday, April 13, for a match against Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce University. The match will begin at 2:00 p.m. on the Assumption College tennis courts.
