Box Score

Manchester, N.H. (January 12) -- Assumption outscored Southern New Hampshire 17-9 in overtime as the Hounds ran their winning streak to three straight on Saturday afternoon with an 83-75 overtime victory over the Penmen in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action at the SNHU Fieldhouse. Assumption is receiving votes in this week's NABC/Division II National Top 25 Poll.

Neither team led by more than four points over the opening 20 minutes, including a 30-26 Assumption edge with 3:22 remaining in the half following a layup from senior Ronson Quick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee). The Penmen tied the game 50 seconds later after a quick 4-0 run, but the Hounds used a jumper from graduate student Kevin Donahue (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) with 1:27 left to take a 32-30 lead into the break. Assumption shot 46.7 percent in the half, but was outrebounded by a 23-18 margin that included an 11-6 edge on the offensive glass.

In the second half, the Hounds stretched the lead out to eight at 38-30 following a layup from Terrance Bobb-Jones (Wilmington, Del./Delcastle Voc-Tech) in the opening minutes of the period. Southern New Hampshire kept up the pressure though and with 11:03 left, the Penmen took their first lead since the opening minutes at 46-45 on a layup from Rodney Sanders.

The two teams traded the lead back and forth over the next eight minutes and the game was tied at 60-60 with 3:22 left after a putback layup from senior Tim Beinert (Bellerose Village, N.Y./Holy Cross). Assumption kept up the scoring and after a deep three from Quick as the shot clock expired, the Hounds seemed to be in control at 66-60 with 1:19 remaining in regulation. The Penmen chipped away though and with 8.3 seconds on the clock, SNHU called a timeout to draw up one final play. C.J. Marriro converted on that final play as he drove the lane and scored on a layup for to tie the game at 66. Assumption's Ryan Rozsnaki (Montreal, Quebec/Landstown) missed a scoop shot from just inside the free throw line as the horn sounded and the game headed into overtime.

In the extra period, the Hounds trailed just once at 68-67 with 4:22 left. Assumption regained the lead for good on a layup from Bobb-Jones and hit nine free throws down the stretch to seal the eight-point victory.

Bobb-Jones led the Hounds with a career-high 27-point performance to go along with eight rebounds and 10-for-15 shooting from the field. Quick posted 26 points and eight rebounds while shooting 10-for-16 from the field and 4-for-5 at the free throw line. Donahue also finished in double figures with 13 points and a team-high three steals.

B.J. Cardarelli paced four Penmen in double figures as he posted a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double in 38 minutes.

With the win, Assumption maintains its hold on first place in the Northeast-10 standings as the Hounds improve to 11-2 overall and 8-1 in the league. The Penmen, who fall for the first time at home this season, drop to 9-4 overall and 5-4 in the Northeast-10.
