No. 16 Hounds Fall to Franklin Pierce

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. (January 23) -- Franklin Pierce jumped out to a seven-point halftime lead and never relinquished it as No. 16 ranked Assumption dropped a 79-59 final to the visiting Ravens on Wednesday night in Northeast-10 Conference play at Laska Gym. Assumption jumped seven spots in this week's NABC/Division II National Poll to No. 16.

After a quiet opening 13 minutes, the two teams were tied at 16-16 as the lead got traded back and forth three times. The Ravens put together a 7-0 run, capped by two free throws from senior Eric Jean-Guillaume, to jump to a 23-16 advantage with 5:1 left in the half. Franklin Pierce led by as many as nine points before a layup from Tim Kasper (Cologne, Germany/Gymnasium Schloss Hagerhof) sent the game into the break at 34-27 in favor of the Ravens. Assumption shot just 27 percent from the field in the half, including 2-for-7 from three-point land.

In the second, the Ravens stretched the lead out to 13 points before a 9-2 run, powered by a trio of three-pointers, pulled Assumption back to within 48-42 with 14:22 remaining. Senior Ryan Rozsnaki (Montreal, Quebec/Landstown) sparked the run, followed two triples from senior Ronson Quick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee). Following a Franklin Pierce timeout, the Hounds knocked down a fourth straight three-pointer with Quick hitting from deep to make it just a three-point game with under 14 left.

The Ravens quickly pushed the lead back to 10 though and slowly pulled away for the eventual 20-point win to snap Assumption's five-game winning streak.

Quick led four Hounds in double figures with 14 points, along with 13 points from Kevin Donahue (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington), 11 from Terrance Bobb-Jones (Wilmington, Del./Delcastle Voc-Tech) and 10 from Kasper. The Hounds shot just 8-for-19 at the free throw line for the game and 33 percent from the field.

Jean-Guillaume paced four Ravens in double figures with 21 points on 6-for-8 shooting at the field and an 8-for-9 performance from the free throw line.

With the loss, the Hounds fall to 13-3 overall and 10-2 in Northeast-10 play, while the Ravens improve to 12-4 overall and 9-3 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Saturday, January 26th as the Hounds travel to UMass Lowell for a 4 p.m. start at Costello Gym.
