Box Score Colchester, Vt. (January 29) -- The Assumption College men's basketball team pulled away in
the second half on the way to a 57-41 victory over Saint Michael's College at the Ross Sports Center on Saturday. Assumption is receiving votes in the NABC/Division II National Poll after being ranked No. 16 in the poll last week.
Senior Ronson Quick (Marlton, N.J. / Cherokee) had a team-high 11 points and 15 rebounds as the Greyhounds out-rebounded the Purple Knights, 51-33, including by a 17-13 margin on the offensive glass. Quick led the way with five offensive boards for Assumption.
The first six minutes went back and forth before Quick made a jumper, giving the Greyhounds a 13-12 lead, propelling an 8-1 run capped by a layup by freshman Will DeFanti (Pawcatuck, Conn. / Stonington). Defanti finished the game with seven points.
Saint Michael's chipped away with five straight points, to cut the lead to two, 19-17. The Greyhounds closed out the half by allowing only eight points over the final seven minutes, taking a 32-25 lead into the break.
Coming out of the half the Greyhounds quickly built a double-digit lead using a 12-4 run to push the score to 44-29. Six different Greyhounds scored baskets on the six field goals during the run, capped by a layup by Jimmy Zenevitch (Methuen, Mass. / Central Catholic) with 12:11 left to play in the game.
The game wouldn't get back to single digits the rest of the way as the Greyhounds cruised to the victory. Senior Ryan Rozsnaki (Montreal, Quebec / Landstown) had 10 points and 11 rebounds on his way to a double-double, while Kevin Donahue (Pawcatuck, Conn. / Stonington) had nine points for Assumption in the win.
The Greyhounds are now 14-4 and 11-3 in Northeast-10 Conference play while Saint Michael's is now 5-13, 2-12 in league action. The Greyhounds return to play on Saturday, February 2 as Assumption will play host to Merrimack College. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Laska Gymnasium in Worcester, Mass.
